Join students from throughout the Western Region. Learn together and share ideas and connect with others in the health and human rights community. The Regional Advocacy Institute features notable experts and experienced PHR national staff. We will tackle critical health and human rights issues and develop skills in effective organizing.
Institute sessions will include:
- “The Power of Health Professionals” and “The Media as a Vehicle for Change: Dr. Rishi Manchanda; member of the National Physicians Alliance and former contributor to the LA Times
- “Health Rights=Healthy Women: The Feminization of AIDS”: Dr. Alice Stek; Maternal, Child and Adolescent HIV Program Director at USC Medical Center
- “Aiding and Abetting Vs. Prevention and Healing: the Role of Health Professionals in Torture”: Dr. Uwe Jacobs; Clinical Director of Survivors International and Contributor to PHR’s Broken Laws, Broken Lives
- Workshop Sessions such as Event Planning, Campaigning, Recruitment, and Moving Policy Makers
